Vardan Sedrakyan detained in Armenia on suspicion of attempting Paruir Airikyan
Today, a general jurisdiction court has ruled to arrest Vardan Sedrakyan, a former candidate for presidency, to two months of preliminary detention. He is suspected of organizing an attempt on another presidential candidate Paruir Airikyan.
On January 31, Airikyan became a victim of an attempt: he was wounded, hospitalized and operated on. On February 10, a court in Yerevan arrested the earlier detained suspects of the attempt on Airikyan citizens of Armenia Khachatur Pogosyan and Samvel Arutyunyan. A pistol was found in the house where one of them lived.
The Service for National Security (SNS) of Armenia has petitioned before the court to arrest Vardan Sedrakyan on suspicion of the attempt on Paruir Airikyan. In the morning, his office was searched. Sedrakyan is accused of ordering the attempt on the presidential candidate of Armenia Paruir Airikyan.
So far, no comments have been made by representatives of Vardan Sedrakyan and the Armenian SNS on the information about the detention of the former candidate.
