Armenia's CC to unite suits of Gukasyan and Ovannisyan

The Constitutional Court (CC) has accepted the claim lodged by Andreas Gukasyan, a former presidential candidate in Armenia to nullify the presidential election. It will be considered on March 11 together with a similar suit lodged by Raffi Ovannisyan, as the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Oganes Papikyan, the press secretary of the CC.

The ex-candidate Andreas Gukasyan has stated that he hopes to hear at the court explanations of Serzh Sargsyan. "Many issues need to be clarified, and I'd like Serzh Sargsyan to do it," said Gukasyan.

Manvel Sarkisyan, Director of Research Programmes of the Armenian Centre for Strategic and National Studies, has noted that Gukasyan, while still a presidential candidate, refused to recognize the legitimacy of the election. "From this point of view, the reason for Gukasyan to apply to the Constitutional Court looks quite justified."

Edmond Marukyan, an independent MP and a lawyer, believes that there will be no long-lasting and meaningful post-election processes after the appeal to the CC will follow.
