The “Georgian Dream” prepared an amendment to the law of entry of regulations of limitation of the President’s authority into effect

Ruling coalition the “Georgian Dream” in Georgia prepared an amendment stipulating entry into effect of already adopted constitutional regulations of extension of powers of Prime Minister for account of limiting the President’s authority. This amendment is expected to come into effect at the moment of inauguration of next Head of the state.

Earlier, Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili declared that the “Georgian Dream” was not considering the question of President Mikhail Saakashvili’s resignation, however he did not rule out speeding-up entry of amendments to the Constitution limiting the authority of Head of the state into effect. Saakashvili’s term of office expires on January, 5, 2013, but according to the amendments to the Election Code enacted in 2011, the presidential election will be held in October of 2013.

Speeding-up enactment of constitutional amendments concerning extension of powers of Prime Minister for account of limiting the President’s authority in Georgia is necessary for the reason that “The President of Georgia can now dismiss the Government of the country and dissolve the Parliament and has a right of many other actions. Head of the state has an unreasonably wide reference”, Head of Legal Committee of the Georgian Parliament Vakhtang Khmaladze said to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.
