Georgia: law "On Amnesty" released 8503 prisoners

As of March 9, based on the law "On Amnesty", 8503 prisoners have left their jails, the Ministry of Corrections has reported.

On January 13, Georgia enacted the law "On Amnesty", which touched on more than 17,000 criminal cases. The Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili had vetoed a part of the bill and refused to sign it, but the veto was overridden by the parliament.

According to the Ministry of Corrections of Georgia, in February 2013, a total of 7699 persons left the jails, of them there are 7431 men (including 40 minors and 183 elderly persons), the "Interfax" reports.

Also, 238 women (including 11 elderly ones) were released, the "News-Georgia" writes.
