Death of 8-year-old causes check of guardianship bodies in Novocherkassk

The guardianship authorities of Novocherkassk are suspected that they had failed to take proper measures in the situation with the 8-year-old Amalia Novikova, who died of meningitis. According to investigators, the girl lived with her mother, who had been deprived of parental rights.

The girl died on March 5 after trying to bring down the temperature independently with the drugs she had found at home. According to the results of the forensic examination, the girl had a viral infection with lesions of the brain and spinal cord, as well as of the respiratory system.

During the inspection, organized by the Investigatory Department for the Rostov Region of the ICRF, it was found that Amalia Novikova lived with her mother who had been deprived of parental rights. According to the investigation, the officers of the guardianship bodies of Novocherkassk had failed to take adequate measures to establish guardianship over the girl, the "Interfax" wrote with reference to the ICRF.

The check found that Amalia's father died about a year ago; while her mother regularly drank alcohol. On the day of the death, the girl's grandmother, who watched her, was at work. The girl's mother told ambulance doctors that the girl had got poisoned with foodstuffs, the "South Federal" writes.

So far, there are no comments from the girl's mother, as well as from representatives of the Novocherkassk guardianship bodies on the situation with the family of Amalia Novikova.
