Karachay-Cherkessia: fellow villagers of assassinated Renat Temrezov announce protest action
After Renat Temrezov was shot dead by a policeman, the village of Chapaevskoe, Karachay-Cherkessia, hosted a protest action that was attended by about 400 people, the villagers report. After the funeral, a meeting took place of local residents with the district administration; and there no "spontaneous" sentiments in the village, according to Marat Botashev, the head of the rural settlement.
The Police Lieutenant Yusuf Appoev was detained on suspicion of murdering Temrezov. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), in the course of a scuffle he shot at Temrezov; and the latter died at the scene before the arrival of the ambulance.
On March 9, the funeral of Renat Temrezov took place; and then – a protest action, a villager from Chapaevskoe told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on condition of anonymity.
"All the male population of the village came to the funeral; then, the funeral procession made its way to the square of Chapaevskoe. In total, about 400 people gathered at the House of Culture. We believe that the killer will try to escape criminal liability. Appoev works for the security service of the head of the republic and drove one of the cars of his cortege," said the villager.
According to his story, the head of the administration had a meeting with villagers and tried to dissuade them from holding the protest.
Marat Botashev, the head of the administration of the rural settlement Chapaevskoe, denied the information about the rally. "There was no rally. After the funeral, a meeting took place of the locals with the district administration. There are no spontaneous moods in the village," he said.
