Nida activists arrested in Azerbaijan
A Baku court has arrested three activists of the Nida, who are accused of inciting violence and civil disobedience, possession of narcotics and explosives.
According to a joint press release of the Ministry for National Security (MNS) and the General Prosecutor's Office, disseminated in the evening on March 8, the young men were detained within the investigation related to "three persons intending to incite people to violence and confrontation during the illegal action scheduled for March 10." According to these data, in the apartments of the students explosives and drugs were found; and the young men saw the charges.
By the court ruling, Aziz Mamedov Rasim oglu, a student of the Baku State University, was sentenced to arrest for two months, and the students of professional lyceum No. 17 Bakhtiyar Guliev Samandar oglu and of the University "Odlar Yurdu" Novruzlu Shakhin Ibrahim oglu – to three months in prison, the "Trend" reports.
At sentencing, the detainees' rights were protected by the advocates appointed by the authorities; while their parents were not even informed. Even now, the detainees' families know nothing about their whereabouts and the presented charges, the Contact Online News reports.
