Rostov region: colony staff accused of beating inmate

Five former and current employees of the Correction Colony No. 10 located in the Rostov Region, suspected of beating an inmate, have seen charges of abusing their service duties, as reported by the Investigatory Department for the Rostov Region of the Investigatory Committee of the Russian federation (ICRF).

The "Caucasian Knot" has informed that after the check by investigators of the video clip posted on the Internet, showing beating of an inmate by the colony staff in Rostov-on-Don, on November 29 five persons were detained, namely: Vladimir Kobzar, Maxim Danshin, Nikolai Ovchinnikov, Alexei Safonov and Vadim Semenikov.

The above two former and three current employees of the colony saw charges on the fact of abuse of power with application of violence and special means, which assumes deprivation of freedom for the term of up to 10 years.

The investigation assumes that on April 4 the above workers of the colony brought a 19-year-old convict to a security service study, and, after handcuffing him, began fisting and kicking his head and body, says the website of the Investigatory Committee of the Rostov Region.

The colony workers were put into custody; and, according to the investigation, they pled guilty. So far, there are no comments of the defenders or their representatives.

As explained by Oksana Sukhareva, Senior Assistant of the Prosecutor of the Rostov Region, the incident burst out because the inmate from Dagestan Shamil Magomedov refused to give his towel that he needed for making namaz to colony employees.
