The opposition is going to hold an action of protest in front of the Parliament of Azerbaijan on December, 10

Mayor’s office of Baku did not authorize a picket in front of the building of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan planned by oppositional civil movement for democracy “Public Chamber” (CMDPC) on December, 10. However, representatives of the opposition declared their intention to hold the protest action in spite of the authorities’ prohibition.

In their notification to Mayor’s office of Baku the organizers of the action informed about their intention to hold a picket on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day which is celebrated on December, 10. It was specified that the action would be held in front of the Parliament from 14:00 till 15:00 under the slogans: “Freedom to political prisoners!”, “No limitations of freedom of assembly!”, “Dissolve the forged Parliament!”, “Freedom of thought, speech and expression without boundaries!”, “Freedom of conscience is everyone’s right” and “Resect human rights!”.

Mayor’s office of Baku disagreed pointing out that according to the legislation, it was “unreasonable” to hold pickets in front of the building of the Parliament because the building was on the list of state objects within a radius of 200 meters distance from which “meetings may be prohibited”, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent was told in the Apparat of Mayor’s office of Baku.

Secretary of CMDPC and Deputy Head of “Musavat” party Guilaga Asanly considers the claims groundless because the law allows holding pickets near such objects.
