Azerbaijan: court extends arrest of "ReAl" leader
The Nasimi District Court of Baku has satisfied the presentation of the investigation department of grave crimes of the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan to extend for further two months the arrest of Ilgar Mamedov, the head of the civil movement "Republic's Alternative" (ReAl).
Fuad Agaev, Mamedov's advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the investigation motivated the need to extend the arrest by "the possibility of Ilgar Mamedov's escape from the investigation."
The lawyer stated the insolvency of the arguments of the investigation. "Since Ilgar Mamedov's detention on February 4, virtually no investigatory actions have been taken against him. Investigators visited him twice during all that time: to present his advocates and acquaint with the results of the medical examination of other figures in the case," said the lawyer.
He added that the decision to extend Mamedov's arrest would be appealed against at the Baku Court of Appeal.
