Russia's Supreme Court upholds verdict to Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov

The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation has upheld the verdict passed by the Moscow City Court, which had found the former policeman Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov guilty of the murder of the journalist of the "Novaya Gazeta" Anna Politkovskaya.

Pavlyuchenkov made a deal with the justice system and fully admitted his guilt. His case was separated and considered by the court in the specific order. On December 14, 2012, the Moscow City Court found Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov guilty of murdering Anna Politkovskaya, and sentenced him to 11 years in a high security colony.

Today, the Russia's Supreme Court took up the complaint of Pavlyuchenkov's defence against the sentence. The trial was held behind closed doors.

The judicial panel of the Supreme Court has left the cassation complaints without satisfaction and the verdict unchanged, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
