Zverevo residents suspend their hunger strike
The hunger strike of six pensioners from the city of Zverevo, Rostov Region, who demand revision of tariffs for housing services, was suspended. The regional authorities have set up a working group to check the rates on housing services in the city.
According to the hunger-strikers, they will be represented in the group by Valery Dyakonov, Nikolai Chekmaryov and Alexei Azhogin.
The working group will be asked to make a selective check of heat consumption by apartment buildings during the autumn-winter season of 2012-2013.
The hunger-strikers themselves believe that the achieved result is not a complete victory, said Valery Dyakonov. "If the check shows that someone had abused the people's trust for personal gain, the initiative group would appeal to the prosecutor's office or the court. Moreover, one of the hunger-strikers said that if something went wrong with the commission, the hunger strike would continue; however, involving not six persons but a lot more," said Dyakonov.
