Prisoners beaten in Kalmykia rejected medical care, their relatives say

Relatives of the prisoners who were beaten on December 4, when they were brought to colony "Salyn IK-1" in Kalmykia, claim that the victims are still without medical attention. The local Kalmykia's UFSIN (Department of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service) denies any beating of inmates on December 4 and transfer of those beaten on November 2 to other jails.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported referring to prisoners' relatives that in December 4, in colony "Salyn IK-1", after arrival of another group of prisoners, about 20 of them, natives of the North Caucasus – North Ossetia, Karachay-Cherkessia, Adygea and Dagestan – were severely beaten.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by a relative of one of the convicts sent to serve their terms at the IK-1 that not a single victim of the beating on December 4 has received the required medical attention, despite severe diseases in some of them. According to his story, more than 10 prisoners are still in the dungeon, where they were placed after the beating.

The press service of the Kalmykia's UFSIN continues to insist that there were no beating of convicts on December 4.

Earlier, Nina Efremova, an activist of the international public movement "Edinstvo" (Unity), reported about a mass beating of prisoners in colony "Salyn IK-1" at night on November 2. Then, in protest, some prisoners cut up their veins; and some others committed self-ignition.
