The person accused of hostage-taking arrested in Astrakhan

Today, the Kirov District Court of Astrakhan has ruled to arrest Alexander Kuptsov accused of taking hostages at the Fishery College. The defendant believes that the court had no reason to arrest him.

According to the ruling, Kuptsov will stay in SIZO (pre-trial prison) until May 15. The court found grounds to assume that he may escape investigation and trial, or influence the witnesses, or attempt to destroy evidences.

"The Court has upheld the request of the investigation on applying the freedom restriction measure in the form of arrest and sees no chances for any other measures," the RIA "Novosti" quotes the judge Galiya Shamshutdinova.

Kuptsov himself has disagreed with the arguments in favour of his arrest. He said he had made his deed of love, while the pistol and the bomb were faked. "From the very beginning I said that the hostages are in safety; that is why I think that I deserve no arrest," the RAPSI quotes Kuptsov as saying.
