Rights defenders to help in defining the reason of death in Volgograd of conscripts who served at Ashuluk training range

On March 18, a young soldier called up three months ago died in the Volgograd military hospital. The soldier's mother sought the help of human rights defenders, as she suspects that they hide the truth from her.

The death of Ivan Ch., born in 1992, at the military hospital in Volgograd was reported by the press centre of the Human Rights Network "Society and Army" with reference to Anatoly Salin, a legal expert of the Astrakhan Committee of Soldiers' Mothers (known as AROO CSM).

From February 5, Ivan was at his service in the demolition unit attached to the Ashuluk training range in Astrakhan; and on February 10 he was taken to the medical unit because his foot nail got rooted into the toe. For the last time the young man called his mother on February 24. He said that he was OK and discharged from the unit.

However, on February 25, in unconscious condition the soldier occurred in the Harabalin District Hospital, allegedly after hitting his head in the fall at an onset of epilepsy. On February 26, in a resuscitation car the young man was taken to the military hospital in Volgograd, where he soon died.

The soldier's mother has addressed for help to the Astrakhan Committee of Soldiers' Mothers, saying that his son was healthy and did not suffer from epilepsy. The woman indicates that at the hospital she saw a fresh abrasion behind her son's right ear; she also worried by the fact that doctors are changing diagnoses and suspected that they were hiding the truth about the reasons for his son's death from her.
