Office of the "Memorial" in Moscow is inspected by prosecutors

A prosecutor's check is currently on in the office of the International Historical-Enlightenment, Human Rights and Humanitarian Society "Memorial".

This morning, the International "Memorial" was visited by an inspection team of the Prosecutor's Office, Ministry Justice and Tax Inspectorate, as well as a unit of the NTV Channel, says the website of the human rights organization.

"All the inspections now undertaken are prosecutor's inspections; however, prosecutors come with some employees of other agencies; this time, of the Ministry of Justice and Tax Inspectorate," the "Interfax" quotes Alexander Cherkasov, the chairman of the Human Rights Centre "Memorial", "Interfax".

The work of the "Memorial" goes on; while the prosecutors are studying documents, the "Echo Moskvy" Radio reports.

The branches of the HRC "Memorial", which is a part of the International "Memorial", were not covered by the inspection.

"Our office in Makhachkala is in normal operation," Elena Denisenko, the representative of the "Memorial" in Dagestan, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to Timur Akiev, the head of the Ingush branch of the HRC "Memorial", the office in Nazran also works normally.

"We've not been worried yet, all is quiet," said the lawyer Rustam Matsev, an employee of the HRC "Memorial" in Kabardino-Balkaria.
