Court in Stavropol drops the suit against ban on hijabs in schools

The Stavropol Territorial Court has dismissed the suit lodged by the lawyer Murad Musaev in protest against the decision of the Stavropol territorial government on introduction of the school uniform and ban on hijabs.

"Thus, the court has upheld the resolution of the territorial government 'On approval of the main requirements for school clothes and appearance of pupils trained at public secondary schools and municipal establishments of the municipal formations of the Stavropol Territory'," the spokesperson of the Stavropol Territorial Court told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The court session was attended by the plaintiffs – the parents of four girls, their advocate Murad Musaev and governmental officials of the Stavropol Territory.

Svetlana Adamenko, the ombudsperson under the Governor, spoke as a witness. She believes that the decision of the authorities that bans appearance at school in religious clothes should be viewed as "an attempt to put an end to the conflict around hijabs," while the parents who came to the court have no reason to assert that they are discriminated, the "Echo Moskvy" reports.

At the announcement of the decision of the courtroom was packed, the "Life News" edition writes.

The lawyer Musaev has stated his intention to appeal against the decision to the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.
