Defendant in Nalchik attack case to be put under home arrest

In Kabardino-Balkaria, the freedom restriction measure of Sarabi Seyunov, a defendant in the case on the attack on Nalchik, will be changed for home arrest, Eva Chanieva, his advocate, said today.

On November 24, 2011, Seyunov's case was separated into an individual proceeding because of his disease – pulmonary tuberculosis. Seyunov was under in-patient treatment at the hospital of the UFSIN (Department of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service) for Kabardino-Balkaria. However, on July 30, the Judiciary Board of the Supreme Court (SC) of Kabardino-Balkaria cancelled the court ruling about the individual proceeding.

"Under the decision of the SC, the defendant shall get back into the trial. Sarabi Seyunov will be provided with the minutes of all sessions and case materials considered during this period," said the lawyer Chanieva.

According to her story, should Seyunov's case be considered separately, the court would have to run a separate trial and summon all the witnesses and victims again.
