In North Ossetia, at trial on transportation of explosives, father of defendant Akaeva questioned

Today, the court interrogated Bege Akaev, the father of Zaira Akaeva, accused of possession and transportation of explosives. The witness for the defence said that he had tried to arrange a meeting with his daughter, but he was not allowed to see her.

"I came here, but I wasn't allowed to see her," he said, adding that he saw his daughter at the trial for the first time after her detention.

At the session the court has read out again Zalina Akaeva's characteristic presented to the court by the head of her villages. According to the document, the defendant is a believer of non-traditional Islam; she had been earlier sentenced conditionally for illegal possession of weapons or explosives.

In his comment on the characteristic, Mr Akaev said that he did not understand the grounds for drawing up the document. "He's never seen my daughter. How could he write about her, if he does not know her. If I have such a child, why he hadn't ever called me to talk about her?"
