Azerbaijani court rejects appeal against arrest of "Nida" activist Azizov

Today, by the ruling of the Baku Court of Appeal, Mamed Azizov, an activist of the civil movement "Nida", was left under arrest. His defence had petitioned in favour of his home arrest.

Azizov was detained on March 7 on suspicion of inciting violence before the action on March 10 in Baku. According to the investigation, drugs were found in his apartment.

On March 18, the Nasimi District Court rejected the defendant's petition on changing the freedom restriction measure; therefore, the defence filed a complaint with the Court of Appeal, as Fariz Namazly, an Azizov's advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his story, the court has only formally considered the motion, and made the decision within minutes, despite the fact that there is no need to keep Azizov in custody.

Mamed himself does not find him guilty and claims that his confession put on TV in the evening on March 9 was given by him under pressure.
