Georgian President signs the law on amendments to the Constitution

The Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has signed the amendments to the Constitution, which partly restrict the president's powers, said David Usupashvili, Chairman (Speaker) of the Parliament.

"Today, the President of Georgia has signed the amendments to the Constitution," said David Usupashvili, noting that "the President won't now be tempted to use his right to dissolve the Parliament; and the latter can now work in peace."

He stressed that since the entry into force of the amendments in Georgia, "no one will be able to change the Government, which is trusted by the people, without elections", the "News-Georgia" reports.

As stated by the Speaker of the Parliament, the document signed by the President will be published presumably today, the "Georgia-Online" reports.
