144 houses in Adzharia damaged in a storm
144 housing estates got damaged as a result of a storm that fell upon the coastal zone of Batumi on March, 24. Houses located in Khelvachauri district underwent the greatest damage, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent reports.
“The hurricane blew off the roofs of seven residents’ houses in the settlement of Sharabidziebi. The state promises them help but the people decided to repair their dwellings by themselves. Many of them raised credits or borrowed money from their relatives and neighbours and are now waiting for the state to cover the expenses”, Head of the Administration of the settlement of Sharabidziebi Rostom Verdadze said.
The storm inflicted a great material damage on the beach of Batumi, five kilometers of the new boulevard were buried in sand. According to preliminary calculation, recovery of the coastline will cost 1,8 million dollars, representatives of the Supreme Council of Adzharia reported.
