Last day of open civil forum in Yerevan was attended by 500 people

On March 17-28, the Yerevan's Freedom Square hosted an open civil forum, organized by supporters of Raffi Ovannisyan, the runner-up in the February 18 presidential election and the leader of the "Heritage" Party. Representatives of the political forces, activists and ordinary citizens were invited to speak there.

"This is a kind of a platform for presenting different ideas; and the format of questions and answers makes it possible to know the moods of the citizens," Armen Martirosyan, Deputy Chairman of the "Heritage" told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The topic of the last section of the forum was formulated as "New Armenia". On March 28, the speakers there were Ruben Akopyan, the head of the "Heritage" Party, and Suren Zolyan, a former rector of the Bryusov Yerevan State Linguistic University. The forum brought together about 500 people.

"Much has changed in Armenia; and the atmosphere in the country is not as bleak as it was before the presidential election," said Akopyan. "In order to finally get rid of this grim situation, it is necessary that the people themselves formed his government, which we never had before."

In his turn, Suren Zolyan has noted that the oppositional forces of Armenia should act step by step. In his view, if the oppositional candidate Raffi Ovannisyan was now appointed to be president, it would bring little positive, because "all the authorities would be hostile to him."
