Akhmed Dodov: more than thousand families in flooding zone in Malgobek

A rise of the ground water in the eastern part of the Ingush city of Malgobek has caused flooding of the area inhabited by over a thousand families, said Akhmed Dodov, the head of the city administration.

According to his story, in total, the water lift has flooded about 500 houses.

"The area of urban development of the city's east is about 140 hectares; over a thousand families live there. Should the water table rise still more, we'll have to evacuate people from there," Akhmed Dodov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Now the residents of the affected district are turning to city authorities for help. All in all, the administration has received about twenty citizens' appeals.

They complain that mould appears on the walls of the flooded houses.

"I live in the area of flooding; and for a number of years people are suffering from these problems: house basements are full of water; the walls in the ground-floor apartments are covered with mould; life is impossible there; children suffer from pulmonary diseases," a Malgobek resident named Ibragim told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The flooded houses are unfit for living, said another resident of the area named Rustam: "The district abounds in ground water: you just dig 20-30 cm deep and see water out on the surface."
