Theologian Talekh Bagirzade arrested for two months in Azerbaijan

Today, the Sabunchi District Court of Baku has arrested the theologian Talekh Bagirzade, accused of drug possession, for two months. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learnt about it from Mirgasym Aliev, a relative of Bagirzade.

According to Aliev, Bagirzade appeared at the court without his advocate Anar Gasimov, who had urgently left for Turkey to take part in another trial. Apart from the theologian, his driver Anar Melikov was also arrested for two months.

Talekh Bagirzade has been charged under "Illegal purchase or possession of drugs without intent to sell in the quantities exceeding what is necessary for personal consumption." If his guilt is proved, he could face up to three years in prison.
