Political and public organizations in Azerbaijan start campaigning in support of arrested "Nida" activists
Activists of the opposition and the country's democratic public of the country have decided to campaign in defence of the rights of the arrested activists of the "Nida". They arrests were also condemned by the Human Rights Watch.
During the last month in Azerbaijan, for different reasons seven "Nida" activists have been detained. On March 7, Bakhtiyar Guliev, Shakhin Novruzlu and Mamed Azizov were detained. On March 14, one of the leaders of the "Nida" Rashad Gasanov was detained; and on March 30 – two members of the board of movement Uzeyir Mamedli and Rashadat Akhundov. On April, an activist Zaur Gurbanly followed them.
In their petitions to the Court of Appeal, the defendants asked to cancel the rulings of the first instance courts and replace their arrest for other forms of freedom restraint, namely, home arrest, transfer under supervision of the police or recognizance not to leave. However, the judges dismissed the complaints, leaving the activists in custody.
