Opponents of "Electrozink" Factory in Vladikavkaz intend to unite with activists of other cities where UMMC works

The initiative group of residents of Vladikavkaz named "Stop 'Electrozink'!" formed on the website "Odnoklassniki" plans to continue their protests. The activists' efforts will be directed towards uniting the environmental movement in all the cities where the Urals Mining and Metallurgical Company (UMMC) operates.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 16 Victory Square in Vladikavkaz hosted a picket against the activities of the UMMC, the owner of the OJSC "Electrozink", organized by the group "Electrozink: what do we breathe in?" The announcement about the planned protest action was posted on social networks.

The picket organizers explained that they decided to protest again in solidarity with Voronezh and several other Russian cities, which also hold pickets against the UMMC. "Our demands remain the same – to close the factory, reclaim the land, conduct proper bio prophylactics of the population with involvement of our experts, so that our oncologists could also take part in it," said German Revazov, one of the organizers of the "Stop 'Electrozink'!"

This time, the protest picket gathered about 20 people. The event was supported by the political party "Green Alliance", which proposed to hold a referendum on closing the "Electrozink". The authorities said no, but the official response of the reason for refusal has not been received yet.
