Court dismissed motion of Temerkhanov's defence to disqualify the judge in Budanov's murder case

The Moscow City Court, which today has continued the trial on the murder of Colonel Yuri Budanov, has dismissed the petition of the defence of the accused Yusuf Temerkhanov asking to challenge Judge Andrei Korotkov.

Let us remind you that the defence had asked to postpone the trial because of the illness of the lawyer Murad Musaev; however, Judge Andrei Korotkov refused to do it; after which he was challenged.

The defence had asked to postpone the session because of the illness of the lawyer Musaev prior to the start of the session. In response to the judge's refusal to postpone the hearing, the lawyer Valentin Varkentin petitioned to challenge Judge Andrei Korotkov.

15 minutes later, the judge announced the refusal to challenge the chairing judge.

In 2003, Yuri Budanov was found guilty of kidnapping and murdering the Chechen girl Elza Kungaeva and sentenced to 10 years in prison. In January 2009, Budanov was released from prison, and on June 10, 2011, he was shot dead in Moscow.
