Relatives of doctor Gunashev detained in Dagestan appealed to Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation for help

Relatives of Marat Gunashev, anaesthetist detained for suspicion of involvement in murder of Ahmed Magomedov, Chief of the Department of Interior Affairs of Makhachkala, appealed to Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika asking to look into the matter.

Preliminary investigation bodies did not inform any of Gunashev’s relatives of his detention. Besides, the detained man’s attorney was not allowed to see him for two days, Gunashev’s relatives wrote in their letter to Yuri Chaika sent on December, 18.

During search not sanctioned by the court one of the law enforcement officers “planted ten match boxes into his eight-year-old daughter’s bedside table”. It emerged later that there were drugs in them. When the girl made a fuss over it another officer tried to turn her back to the table by force, Gunashev’s relatives state.

After the search the officers did not provide the man’s relatives with a copy of the protocol. Besides, during Gunashev’s detention they threatened him, the letter runs.  

Marat Gunashev, doctor of municipal hospital No 2 of Makhachkala, and his colleague Shamil Gasanov were detained on November, 28, for suspicion of murder of Chief of the Department of Interior Affairs of Makhachkala Ahmed Magomedov committed on February, 5, 2010, and involvement in paramilitary groups. Gunashev was arrested. He denies his involvement in the murder of Chief of the Department of Interior Affairs of Makhachkala.
