South Ossetia released a detained citizen of Georgia

During a regular meeting in Ergneti within the framework of Mechanism for prevention of incidents and response to them (MPRI) on December, 19, South-Ossetian party released Georgian citizen Givi Chkikvadze.

Givi Chkikvadze, resident of the settlement of Kirbali aged 63, was passed on to the Georgian party before the beginning of the meeting. He was detained by Russian servicemen on December, 10. According to his fellow villagers, at the moment of detention Givi was gathering brushwood in the territory adjoining South-Ossetian border. After that he was first delivered to the settlement of Gromi and then moved to Tskhinvali, “Georgia online” reports.

According to chief of district police of the settlement of Shida Kartly Georgy Dvalishvili, active negotiations with the Ossetian and Russian parties were successful and Givi Chkikvadze was released as a result, “Medianews” reports.

According to the “Georgian party”, up to ten citizens of Georgia most of whom are accused of illegal crossing the border still remain in South Ossetia, “Novosti-Georgia” reports.

There are no comments from representatives of South Ossetia or Russian border guards in connection with detention and release of the Georgian citizen yet.
