In Stavropol, election candidates study peculiarities of electoral processes

A two-day-long civil seminar "School of New Power", which discusses the electoral process in Russia, was opened today in Stavropol. It is attended by over 40 listeners from different regions of Southern Russia.

The trainees plan to participate in municipal and regional elections; the majority of them are from the cities and towns of the Stavropol and Krasnodar Territories.

Besides, the seminar is also attended by the leaders of the Stavropol social movements "All Houses", "Narodnaya Volya" (People's Will), assistants to deputies and senators, businessmen and active political technologists.

Natalia Shavshukova, the federal coordinator of the project "School of New Power", said that the event is dedicated to issues of local self-government, budget process and practices of municipal and regional elections.

Within the workshop, Alexander Kynev, the head of regional programmes of the Foundation for Information Policy, presented the audience with the results of his research of the 2011-2012 federal electoral cycle. According to Mr Kynev, the poor outcomes for the "Edinaya Rossiya" (United Russia) Party at the elections to the Russian State Duma in December 2011, were largely caused by the activeness of the opposition.
