Yerevan commemorates murdered head of Proshyan

In Yerevan's Freedom Square a candle-lighting ceremony, organized by the initiative group "Wake up Armenia!" and the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun" in memory of Grachya Muradyan, the slain head of the village of Proshyan, the Kotayk Region, took place.

According to the organizers, the event, held on April 4, was directed against the permissiveness and impunity in the country, "one of the victims of which was Grachya Muradyan."

"It is exactly thanks to such people like Muradyan, the Armenian people live in peace today. And the whole tragedy is that having such illustrious combat past he died in his own community, for which he was ready to sacrifice his life," said Armen Rustamyan, a member of the Supreme Body of the ARF.

Rustamyan has treated Muradyan's murder as a grave crime. "Given the tense atmosphere in which Muradyan worked, it becomes clear that his murder was political in nature; and it can not be regarded as a domestic violence murder," he said.

Asmik Evoyan, a member of the initiative group named "Pre-Parliament", came to express her dissatisfaction with the "lawlessness that happened in the country." "We must all be here in order to create such Armenia, where every citizen could feel safe."

The event was also attended by Grachya Muradyan's fellow villagers. According to their story, Muradyan was a model head of the community.
