In Azerbaijan, court leaves "Nida" activist Zaur Gurbanly behind bars

Today, the Baku Appeal Court (BAC) has rejected a complaint lodged by Zaur Gurbanly, an activist of the civil movement "Nida", against his arrest for three months. His advocates find the court's decision unreasonable.

Zaur Gurbanly was arrestedon April 1 for three months. His appeal against the arrest was considered by the Baku Appeal Court (BAC) on April 8 and 9.

The BAC dismissed the complaint, leaving Gurbanly in custody.

Today, the prosecution has presented the criminal case materials. "However, the consideration of the appeal was formal. The criminal case materials were on the table before the judge, but he didn't even look into them," said the activist's advocate.
