"Rospotrebnadzor" sent to Georgia official permission to import "Borjomi"
The Company "IDS Borjomi", which produces and sells mineral water "Borjomi", was sent an official notification with a permit to import its products to the territory of Russia, the "Rospotrebnadzor" has reported.
"The official documents have been sent," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the press service of the agency, adding that there are no bureaucratic obstacles to the delivery of mineral water to Russia.
The imports of mineral water and wine from Georgia to Russia were banned in spring of 2006. The official reason for the ban was in the claims of the "Rospotrebnadzor" to the quality of products.
The return of Georgian products to the Russian market is a positive step for consumers, said Kirill Kabanov, the chairman of the National Anti-Corruption Committee. "Old ties should be restored," he said.
Russia has competitors to "Borjomi", almost identical in composition to the Georgian mineral water, said Yulia Bastrigina, a dietarian and an expert of international companies Amway and Nestle.
"The key difference: 'Borjomi' is slightly richer in magnesium. But this is a strong argument – there are only a few similar sources in the world, for example, in Slovenia," Ms Bastrigina told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
