In Chechnya, Parliament bans energy drinks

The Parliament of the Chechen Republic has passed – in the final reading – the law to ban energy drinks in the territory of the republic. It will come into force after signing by the head of Chechnya and publication in printed mass media.

According to the press service of the Parliament, "the sale of energy drinks is prohibited in educational institutions, health care and other facilities, recreational and cultural centres, sports complexes, and at the distance closer than 300 meters from such objects and facilities."

"The ban on sale of energy drinks to minors also covers the public transport," added the press service.

In general, residents of the republic are positive about the ban on sale of energy drinks to minors. "In addition to energy drinks, they should also ban sale of cigarettes," said Toita Sadulaeva, a resident of the republic.

"We have always had negative attitude to alcohol and cigarettes, because their use was considered simply indecent. But much has changed over the last decades," said Ruslanbek Makhmudov, a resident of Grozny.
