Ex-political prisoners in Georgia demanded to impeach Saakashvili

Ex-political prisoners in Georgia who were released after adoption of the law “On Amnesty” appealed to the Parliament of the country demanding to impeach Saakashvili.  

57 political prisoners signed the appeal to Chairman of the Georgian Parliament David Usupashvili. On January, 13, when the law came into effect 190 political prisoners were released from custody.

“The politicians who established a regime when there were hundreds of political prisoners in the country, those during whose rule torture in prisons which cost lives and health to many people became an ordinary practice, the politicians to whom the majority of the population of the country expressed distrust at the parliamentary election must resign”, the statement read out today at a press conference in Tbilisi by Nana Kakabadze, Chairperson of non-governmental organization “Ex-political prisoners for human rights”, runs.

The Government of Georgia decided that security classification would be canceled concerning the political prisoners’ administrative cases and their materials would become public, “Tbilisi Week” quotes Head of Human Rights Committee Eka Beselia.
