Ex-World Champion in tae kwon do in Dagestan released from the Department of Interior Affairs

Ex-World Champion in tae kwon do Kazimir Budunov detained without charge was released from Kirov district Department of Interior Affairs of Makhachkala after the athlete’s relatives appealed to Public Prosecutor’s office, the Ministry of Interior Affairs of Dagestan and “Memorial” Human Rights Center, lawyer Sapiyat Magomedova reported.

Budunov was detained by the personnel of Kirov district Department of Interior Affairs of Makhachkala on January, 11. “Three days he was kept in the police department without any officials documents of detention”, Magomedova said to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

According to the lawyer, drugs were found during search of Budunov’s car. The athlete himself states that the drugs might be planted to him.

“The case on the fact of finding drugs was not closed but Budunov was released for the reason that Public Prosecutor’s office dismissed the request of the investigator of Kirov district Department of Interior Affairs of taking him into custody”, Sapiyat Magomedova said.

Kirov district Department of Interior Affairs declined comment.
