The Chechen Republic: no less than 174 victims of armed conflict in 2012

No less than 174 persons in Chechnya became victims of armed conflict in Northern Caucasus in 2012. 82 out of them were killed and 92 got wounded. This is the total of calculation by the “Caucasian Knot” based on its own correspondents’ data and information from open sources.

According to the “Caucasian Knot’s” data, 38 participants of armed underground all in all were killed during the year in Chechnya and one more got wounded. 43 members of power ministries perished and 84 got wounded. As for the civilians, there were eight victims of armed conflict: one person perished and seven got wounded.

However, according to official data, the number of victims, both members of power ministries and participants of armed underground, is much more. In particular, during a press conference on December, 10, devoted to a survey of the situation in 2012 Head of Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov referring to the Ministry of Interior Affairs stated that 42 gunmen were killed, 54 policemen perished and 148 were wounded in the republic in 2012.
