Supreme Court of Chechnya upholds verdict of woman who tried to sell baby

In Chechnya, the verdict has been upheld against Aksana Dashkaeva, a 42-year-old resident of Kabardino-Balkaria, who was sentenced earlier by one of the Grozny District Courts to ten years of imprisonment in a general security colony for kidnapping and attempted sale of an eight-month baby.

Dashkaeva was accused of the fact that in November 2012, while visiting her friend, she put her to sleep; and then kidnapped her eight-month daughter and tried to sell it for 400,000 roubles. Dashkaeva was detained.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by the Chechen Ministry of Justice that on April 17 the Supreme Court considered the cassation complaint lodged by the defence of Aksana Dashkaeva, sentenced this February by the Oktyabrsky District Court of Grozny to ten years in prison.

"The Supreme Court of the Republic has left Dashkaeva's sentence unchanged," said the ministry.

The defence believes the sentence is too harsh and inconsistent with the guilt of the convict.
