In Sochi, six half-century-old cedars felled, eyewitnesses report

This morning, in Sochi, in the park area of Tchaikovsky Street, unidentified persons cut down six fifty-year-old cedars, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by eyewitnesses.

"At about 6 a.m., I was walking with my friends near the Polytechnic School, where we study. Two workers were cutting down cedars. We saw four fresh stubs. And the workers proceeded to cut down two more cedars. We asked: 'Why are you doing this?' And the workers replied: 'Ask Putin. We follow the order," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by a young man who had introduced himself as Sergey.

"It's a great pity that the trees were cut down. There was a beautiful park near the Polytechnic School. And in general, Tchaikovsky Street was all green, well maintained and comfortable. People could sit in the shade of the trees. And at present, we are afraid to walk there. There are potholes and mud everywhere. And above our head we see scary concrete structures. We tried to call the hotline of the City Mayor; however, we were replied that 'this is Olympics' and that they could do nothing," student Oleg said.

Residents of neighbourhoods "Zavokzalny", "Tsentralny" and "Zarechny" of the city of Sochi also reported that during the festive New Year days, the developers destroyed perennial resort plants. At the same time, the city residents complain about the complete inaction of the authorities.
