Mikhail Saakashvili: families of Georgian militaries who perished in Afghanistan will receive lifetime pensions

Families of Georgian peacekeepers killed in Afghanistan in the line of duty will receive lifetime pensions. This was stated by President Mikhail Saakashvili during his meeting with soldiers of the Georgian peacekeeping contingent, held in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan on January 1.

"In addition to the compensation under the laws of Georgia, the families of Georgian peacekeepers killed in Afghanistan will receive lifetime pensions," Mikhail Saakashvili has stated and added that the respective bill will be considered by the Parliament, the MRTK (Interstate TV and Radio Company) "Mir" reports.

At the same time, it became known that, starting from January 2013, the salaries of the military contingent of Georgian peacekeeping in Afghanistan will be raised.

According to the decision of Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, the salary of a private will be 1000 US dollars per month instead of 715 US dollars, of a corporal – about 1040 US dollars (earlier 780 US dollars), of a junior sergeant – 1080 US dollars (earlier 845 US dollars), of a sergeant – 1118 US dollars (earlier 910 US dollars), and of a senior sergeant – 1157 US dollars (earlier 975 US dollars). The same decision also increases salaries of middle and senior officers, the "Georgia Online" reports.
