Residents of South Ossetia, sentenced in Georgia, visited by their relatives

Today, with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), residents of South Ossetia, serving their sentences in Gldani Prison No. 8 in Tbilisi, were visited by their relatives. This was reported by Irakly Kordzaya, the head of the press service of the Ministry of Corrections of Georgia.

That was the first time when the prisoners were visited by their relatives after the end of the hunger strike in Gldani Prison No. 8, in which, starting from April 15 till 25, 75 prisoners took part, including citizens of South Ossetia. The prisoners demanded to increase the frequency of visits and to review the cases under which they had been sentenced to life imprisonment.

"This meeting was organized by representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), to provide that the residents of the Tskhinvali Region (Georgia continues to call South Ossetia in that way, note of the "Caucasian Knot") can make sure that their relatives are all right and that they feel well after their hunger strike," Irakly Kordzaya told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Today, Gldani Prison No. 8 was visited by relatives of Georgy Zasseev, Iosif Kochiev, and Gigo Valiev, three prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment in Georgia.

"Visits are planned. Earlier, visits were organized every three or four months, and at present, visits became more frequent," said Lyudmila Usovich, the mother of prisoner Georgy Zasseev.

Let us remind you that, starting from April 15, Lyudmila Usovich went on a hunger strike in solidarity with her son.
