Georgian law enforcers claim having no information about Magomed Magomedov, missing native of Dagestan

In Georgia, representatives of the Chief Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) state that they do not have any information on the whereabouts of Magomed Magomedov, a native of Dagestan, who disappeared in Tbilisi. It is known that Magomed Magomedov himself was sentenced in Georgia to two years of imprisonment for illegal crossing of the border; however, in January 2013, he was amnestied, and he asked the Georgian authorities for a political asylum.

Let us remind you that relatives and friends of Magomed Magomedov filed a complaint to the Georgian MIA about his disappearance. According to their story, they lost communication with him on April 19, at about 12:40 a.m.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has found out that Magomed Magomedov arrived in Georgia in May 2012 through the Dagestani section of the Georgian-Russian border (area of the Lopota Gorge) and spent a half of the year in the Pankisi Gorge. According to the version of the "Kakheti Information Centre", the anti-terrorism centre of Kakheti was aware of Magomed Magomedov's staying in the country and was in touch with him through Officer Sandro Amiridze.

After the parliamentary elections of October 1, 2012, and the formation of the new government, the Georgia MIA detained Magomed Magomedov and accused him of illegal crossing of the border. On December 18, 2012, the Tbilisi City Court sentenced him to two years of imprisonment; however, in January 2013, Magomed Magomedov was amnestied and released from prison, and he asked the government of Georgia for a political asylum.

Magomed Magomedov motivated his request by the fact that the current leaders of the Russian Federation persecute him for religious belief. The government of Georgia has provided Magomed Magomedov with a status of the applicant for political asylum, and after that he resided in the territory of Georgia.

On April 19, at about noon, Magomed Magomedov left the house in Tbilisi and after that, nobody saw him again. Relatives filed a complaint about the disappearance of Magomed Magomedov in Tbilisi in the Gldani-Nadzaladevi Department of the MIA.

Later, the "Information Centre of Kakheti" disseminated the information received from the relatives of Magomed Magomedov, who believed that he had been detained by the Georgian MIA to deliver him to the Russian Prosecutor's Office for participating in the armed formations of "Imarat Kavkaz" led by Dokku Umarov.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the Georgian Ombudsman's Office that at that time, no further information about Magomed Magomedov had been reported.

Officials from the Chief Prosecutor's Office of Georgia officially told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they got no information about Magomed Magomedov.

The website of the Georgian MIA contains no messages about the arrest of Magomed Magomedov, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
