Bridge to the mountain village of Dargo is built in south of Chechnya

A bridge across the Yassa (Aksay) River is being built in the mountainous Vedeno District of Chechnya, near the village of Dargo. The old bridge was destroyed in the course of the first military campaign in the country, said the Ministry of Motor Roads of Chechnya. The commissioning of the new bridge is scheduled for 2013.

"The construction of the bridge in the village of Dargo began a few months ago; and there has already been done a lot of work. Given that the Yassa River at this place is very rough, only one leg of the foundation has already absorbed 11 tons of reinforcement," a source from the above Ministry told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his story, at present, to cross the river locals use the old bridge, which was partially destroyed during the bombing in 1996. "People have reinforced the half-destroyed part of the bridge with logs and stones; however, from time to time they had to repair it; besides, there were cases when cars broke down into the river," said the official.

Dargo has over 2200 residents, anticipating the opening of a new bridge.

"We haven't had a normal bridge for 15 years. The one we have now is very unreliable, but we have to use it. They say that the new bridge will be ready by next spring; and it will be a great gift for all of us," said Rizvan S., a local resident.
