Georgian culture figures to seek settlement of Georgian-Russian relations

The NGO named "Union of Societies of Georgian-Russia Relations: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" and Georgian figures of culture are setting up an initiative group for settlement of Georgian-Russian relations, in order to revive the tradition of joint projects in the sphere of education and sciences.

According to Doctor of Philology Nana Tsitelashvili-Ermakova, the Chair of the "Union", the group will comprise 12 cultural figures of Georgia, including film director Rezo Chkheidze, poet Givi Shakhnazarov, poet Djansug Charkviani poet, writer Vakhtang Kharchilava, poet Bagater Arabuli, poet Kamila Korinteli and others.

"In the next few days we're going to draft an appeal to the prime minister with an offer of cooperation. Yes, I know that certainly people will appear who will remind us of the communist regime and arrests, calling us Kremlin agents. But in spite of all complexities, we must restore good neighbourly relations," said Tsitelashvili-Ermakova.

Russia and Georgia have had many joint achievements, Rezo Chkheidze film director, actor, screenwriter and a member of the initiative group, is sure.

"Russia is not Brezhnev, Lenin or Khrushchev. You can't oppose everything to politics! When someone from the government comes out and says that the monument to Pushkin should be demolished – it's shame," poet and writer Djansug Charkviani has stated his position.
