Georgian soldier disappears in Afghanistan

A soldier from the Georgian contingent has disappeared in Afghanistan; searches are fruitless.

The incident occurred on December 19; the reasons for the disappearance of the soldier are still unknown.

The soldier's family has been informed about what happened; and the Georgian units deployed in Afghanistan have stepped up their security measures, the "Medianews" reports with reference to its source from the Georgia's Ministry of Defence (MoD).

After this October, the number of Georgian soldiers involved in the international operation to promote peace in Afghanistan has been increased up to 1571; as a result, Georgia has now the second largest contingent there after Australia among non-NATO countries, the edition named "Civil.ge" reports.
