Georgia's GPO accuses former Justice Minister of organizing filming of beatings in prison

The General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Georgia has finished preparation of the materials for accusing the former Justice Minister Zurab Adeishvili of organizing beatings of prisoners in Gldani Prison No. 8.

In September, Georgia detained three members of Gldani Prison on suspicion of ill-treatment of inmates. Their evidence and videos of the beatings were made public and sparked mass protests of citizens.

On December 21, the GPO issued a statement saying that Adeishvili was the customer of the videos. According to investigators, he agreed with the prison director that beatings of prisoners on the eve of the parliamentary elections would be videoed. The summons for questioning was delivered to the ex-Minister of Justice by one of his relatives; however, Adeishvili failed to appear for questioning, the "Tbilisi Week" reports.

Today, the Public Prosecutor Archil Kbilashvili said that the examination of the footage of the beatings was over, while the statement to arrest Adeishvili in absentia, who is currently abroad, has already been prepared and on December 26 will be transferred to the court, the "Georgia Online" reports.
