Armenia starts nominating its presidential candidates

On December 25, Armenia launched the process of nominating presidential candidates; it will last until January 4, said the press service of the Central Election Commission (CEC).

The election campaign will start in Armenia on January 21 and last until the end of the day on February 16.

The ruling Republican Party has nominated the incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan as its presidential candidate. Also his intention to run for presidency was expressed by the leader of the "Heritage" Party faction Raffi Ovannisyan. On December 24, the congress of the "Azatutyun" (Freedom) Party decided to nominate Grant Bagratyan, an MP, the current chairman of the party and a former Prime Minister of Armenia, as a presidential candidate.

Besides, earlier the same intention was announced by Paruir Airikyan, the leader of the association "National Self-Determination", and Aram Karapetyan, the chairman of the "New Times" Party.
