Residents of two villages moved from Azerbaijan to Dagestan disbelieve in quick solution of their problems

Residents of Dagestani villages of Khrakh-Uba and Uryan-Uba, which are an enclave within Azerbaijan, state that the majority of those who resettled to Russia are jobless and have to live in rented apartments or with their relatives.

The above two villages located in the north of Azerbaijan were inhabited by Russian citizens registered in the Magaramkent District of Dagestan. They arrived in Azerbaijan during the USSR and received there land for farming. On September 3, 2010, a Russian-Azerbaijani agreement on the state border was signed. Under the agreement, the territories of the Russian enclaves passed over to Azerbaijan. The fate of Russian citizens, who compactly lived in these villages, was left unsettled.

On December 26, at a session of the People's Assembly of Dagestan, Marat Ilyasov, the Minister of Economy, said that the relocation of residents of the Dagestani enclave in Azerbaijan will cost 900 million roubles.

"The Magaramkent District, where we are supposed to move, is a wasteland; nothing is being built there. It would be better to spread the money among us; and we would build houses ourselves, since we all see the resettling example of the Novolak District, which lasts for many years," said Nagmet Nagmetov, a resident of Khrakh-Uba.

He is supported by another resident of the village Bakhtiyar Mamedov. According to his story, now the settlers are scattered throughout Dagestan, where they try to find permanent jobs. "We live in apartments. We are so sick and tired of the resettling problem that many are ready to agree to any variant."
