Actions demanding Saakashvili's resignation held in several cities in Georgia
Tbilisi and several other cities of Georgia have become venues of protests demanding resignation of President Mikhail Saakashvili. They were initiated by activists of several public organizations.
In the framework of the campaign, several dozen members of the "Unanimity for Public Rights" gathered today at the residence of the President of Georgia in Tbilisi.
"January 20 is five years after Saakashvili's second inauguration; therefore, he should resign. If by that date he fails to step down as president, these public actions will grow regular and more extensive," Mikhail Andguladze, the head of the organization, said today.
He also noted that over the last two months, different parts of the country had already collected nearly 800,000 signatures in support of the incumbent's resignation, which indicates, according to Andguladze, that "quite a large part of the population expresses the will to ensure that Saakashvili resigns," the ITAR-TASS reports.
The protests also took place today at the president's residences in Batumi and Zugdidi, the "Interfax" reports.
